Rainy Days

I love rainy days in summer.  I love the smell of the dense, warm, wet air as rain approaches.  I love feeling of those first few big drops before the downpour hits. I love the sound of an army of a million drops marching on my roof.

Don't get me wrong.  I LOVE sunny days.  I love them so much, in fact, that I can't bear to stay inside and clean up. Or do work. Or anything else that doesn't involve going outside.  I hate wasting sunny days and try to be outside as much as possible.  That is why, after days and days of nothin' but the sun, I crave a rainy day.

On rainy days, I get cozy in bed and watch old romantic comedies and

Sit on my covered porch and watch the rain and lightening show with the accompanying orchestra of thunder and

Re-read all my magazines one last time before recycling them and

Clean out my cupboards…boy, did I have a lot of gift bags, old musty pillows, and lightbulbs(?) and

Eat the classic rainy day summertime meal:
Weiners and BeanersThis may sound ridiculous, but for even this, I have a recipe:
2-3 hot dog, cut into 1 inch pieces
1 can of baked beans.  Personally, I love Bush's vegetarian

Put hotdogs in the bottom of a small saucepan and on medium heat,  brown on each side so they get crispy and stuff.
Add in the beans & bring to a boil.
Serve.  With a side of magazines or comic books or crappy TV.
Or just eat while staring at the rain.
Or get really, really brave and forget about taking cover and "waiting it out" and just go for it.  Such as riding my bike up Avenue Rd getting soaked to the bone.  My only issue being the 2-for-1 Pepsi coupon I won at the Pepsi Challenge a few minutes earlier getting totally destroyed! (Insert sad face here)

…and then the sun comes out and its back to real life.
