Today I Bought Shoes: A Poem by Me

The Shoes: Ugg Clogs & Merrell Barefoot Trailrunners

Today I bought shoes because I found out I need root canal and a crown and then I felt really, really old because only old people get crowns

Today I bought shoes because in preparation for said root canal, I need to take massive amounts of penicillin and my friend, Sara, just reminded me what happens to me when I take penicillin

Today I bought shoes to because a student of mine is not succeeding and I feel like a bit of a failure

Today I bought shoes because a different student is finally making friends.  Yay!

Today I bought shoes because I gained three pounds last week and my aunt Flo is visiting soon and my roots need to be done and my hair won't stop being frizzy and the sunburn I got on my face is starting to peel and and I was feeling ugly and shoes always make me feel pretty

I think that's why we women love them so much

Today I bought shoes to congratulate myself for running a decent 5k outside while it is still March

Today I bought shoes to console myself for lying to myself about the 5k...it was closer to 4

Today I bought shoes because my husband and children are at Disneyworld and I'm not and I was lonely and a little sad that I don't get to be there with them and I figured out that having the whole house to myself isn't so great after all

But really,

Today I bought shoes because Tozer told me there was a sale at Sporting Life.

And I can't resist a sale.


PS.  When you are all alone at home and you need comfort food and you need it fast and your dentist tells you not to eat anything that requires a lot of chewing until after the root canal/new filling/crown ordeal is over, but you still want to eat healthy, make this:

Spaghetti with Tomato Sauce
in 10 mintues flat (or however long it takes your water to boil and spaghetti to cook)

You could use jarred tomato sauce but you have to wait for the pasta to cook anyways so why not make something real instead of a jar of something that has way more chemicals and is way more inferior in taste.

1.  While waiting for water to boil, heat a pan to medium and add 1 tbsp olive oil & 2 cloves of crushed garlic
2. Before the garlic starts to brown (about 30 seconds), add in a can of crushed tomatoes
3. Add a bay leaf, a generous pinch of eat salt, pepper, and sugar (yup, you read right, sugar).  Bring to a boil then turn down and let simmer.
4.  By this time, the water should be boiling so add in the spaghetti.  It has to be spaghetti; no other pasta (except maybe orzo or risotto but those are hardly pastas) fulfulls the same comfort-food factor. 
5.  One minute before the spaghetti is done, mix some chopped basil to the sauce. Taste and adjust the seasonings-including the sugar. Do I really need to tell you to remove the bay leaf at this point?
6.  Put the pasta in a bowl and add as much sauce as you want .  Personally, I like it saucy...but not too saucy.
7. Add a little more chopped basil and grated REAL parmasean cheese.
8. Eat in bed with either a good book or crappy TV.  I know this sounds gross but really, it is easier to wash the sheets if you spill vs. washing the couch if you spill.  Think about it.  I'm right.
