The bad news: got a late start due to the on-line course I am taking & because I don't like to eat before I run, was super-hungry the whole time. The good news: ran a super-fast 3 miles so that I could (a) get back in time for an on-line conference and (b) more importantly, get home to eat breakfast. Loving the fact that chocolate milk is now considered an ideal food for runners.
Grilled cheese on Challa with bacon. Obviously nutrition is not part of my training regime. You all know how to make grilled cheese, but what about the right way to make bacon (says the Jewish woman) ?
How to make bacon so your house doesn't smell like bacon in case kosher relatives come over:
Preheat the oven to 400. Put a wire rack that you would use to cool cookies on top of a baking sheet that has been lined with foil. Put the bacon (I like the thick-cut smoked bacon from Pusateri's) on the wire rack not overlapping at all. Put the bacon in the oven, turning after 5 min. After your turn it the second time, brush a light coating of REAL maple syrup onto the bacon. Cook for 5 more minutes or until done almost to the crispness you like. It will get crispier as it cools down. No need to drain on a paper towel as all the fat drips away as it is cooking. And the odor pretty much stays in the oven. Its a beautiful thing...
Started reading Mr. Pip. Pretty good...a little obvious in terms of cliches but then again, it was intended to be Young Adult fiction so I guess it needs to be that obvious.
